First, thanks for the overwhelming response to What Priests Want You to Know.
Second, we were wondering, are there any subjects you'd like to read about here on Dirty Sexy Ministry? If so, tell us, and we will blog away. In case you're wondering, yes, our creativity around the Dirty Sexy Ministry world is a bit tapped out with book edits.
Eagerly awaiting the book! I'm interested in what you think about kids in church, and a related question, the role of church school (if any).
ReplyDeleteI'm interested in reading about mentors. Who has left thumb whorls on your heart?
ReplyDeleteAlso, hope. What does it mean seesaw between brokenness and hope? How do we not get trapped in the brokenness? You've written much needed words about why ignoring brokenness and pain doesn't work. THANK YOU.
Finally, there's this question of insideness/outsideness. I'm someone who deeply loves the church and looks at it sidelong and skeptically. I am "outside" official spiritual leadership, yet believe very deeply in what the Church (including strong lay leadership) can offer the world. Episcopalians drive me crazy, and our wild family is still my most real constellation of experiencing God's love and the unfolding mystery that is life lived together. I guess that's what your book is about.
As people who serve inside the institution, what can you say to people outside ordained ministry who practice spiritual leadership? I know it's not a binary, but how can we partner together? (I'm thinking about the "What Priests Want You to Know" post. What do you want people who weren't surprised by the content of that post to know?)
I'd love to read about your thoughts on making youth and children really a *part* of church life...what can churches do to keep them coming, not out of guilt, but out of love and a desire to be there?
ReplyDeleteAnd really, anything. You both write so well that I would read about your shopping trips.
And my 17yo son thinks your Mediocre Litany is about the best thing he has ever read, and I agree.
